community
At the start of 2019, I began hosting monthly “Community Art Night” events at local venues around Seattle including art stores and nonprofits. I feel deeply that art is for everybody, and our community needs more opportunities for free, drop-in, low-stakes events that serve to connect individuals to one another, introduce people to new mediums, and share knowledge, resources, and an abundance of art supplies! We took an extended hiatus due to the pandemic, but happily I am back to hosting monthly gatherings as of 2024 (see below for current opportunities to join in the fun).
Interested in meeting your neighbors, exploring new mediums, getting crafty, and making a mess? Come join us for community-building and artmaking! Art supplies will be provided for impromptu mixed-media creations (paper, markers, crayons, scissors, glue, collage materials, etc.). Feel free to bring extra supplies or a snack, but nothing is needed except yourself and a creative attitude. We will talk about what it means to be an artist and to create in the world, and share ideas, projects, and inspiration. Art is for everybody!
Artists’ Guild: meets first Sundays @ 3pm-4:30pm, downstairs at the fremont abbey!
4272 Fremont Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103 - downstairs (enter on 43rd Street side)
Artists’ Guild meets prior to COTA Sunday services, but Artists’ Guild is a non-religious event. COTA (Church of the Apostles) is the owner and community steward of the Fremont Abbey, which is occupied the rest of the week by the independent nonprofit Fremont Abbey Arts Center. COTA is a welcoming and affirming community, full of awesome people, and not your average church (for more information visit https://www.apostleschurch.org).
COMING SOON: ZOOM ARTISTS’ CIRCLE!
A time for social gathering online, as we hold space for each other to work on our own projects independently, from home.
RSVPs are appreciated, but not required (email alexia.makes.art@gmail.com). Children are always welcome, but we ask that they are supervised by an adult.
Have an idea about other locations that may want to host art nights, or want to volunteer to help set up or bring supplies? Contact me!
Community artmaking events are free and open to the public. Donations for supplies are accepted via cash/paypal/venmo — this work is not (currently) supported by any nonprofit, so donations go directly to support me as an individual to purchase supplies and share my time.
