July
July 13th - started adding string. Got interrupted and haven’t touched since.
July 28th - paper pulp holding up surprisingly well.
Is it progress to take a break?
We play hard, we rest hard.
In addition to the regular juggling — of a vivacious and precocious toddler; work; housework; social and family life — there has also been a crisis in my family of origin, and I have been navigating more mental health issues than usual (mine and others’). This comes with a lot of grief, grace, love, empathy, and hope, but has drained me of what little physical energy I usually have.
After stressing intensely about all the progress I *haven’t* made on the “Matrescence” project, I am coming out the other side of the tunnel, and leaning into imperfection, flexibility, and — yes, once again — community, the power of asking for help, and realizing I’m not alone.
As I look back over the month of July, of course it has not been completely bereft of observing nature and space, and making small adjustments and interactions with the project.

I am going into August with new hope and an openness to what will come. I have already set a goal of inviting friends and community to view the project on the fourth weekend of August. I will focus on creating the pieces of the project that I can during my available time this coming month, and instead of canceling or moving the opening reception, I am turning it into an opportunity for the community to participate in the project’s creation. Please reach out and join me for the soft opening/community project collaboration party on Saturday 8/24 and Sunday 8/25!
